A goal, like a mirror, is simply a way to observe, never to judge So, yesterday was the beginning of the Chinese New Year! This means that for those of us who follow a western calendar, we are almost 40 days into 2008.

For some of us that we are nearly 40 days into our New Years resolutions. Hopefully we are making headway toward fulfilling our resolutions. Often, however, many of our resolutions have already fallen to the wayside. One way or another, right now is the perfect time to our evaluate progress.

     Many of those that give yoga a try find it physically and mentally beneficial, keeping their bodies young and healthy while quieting their frenzied thoughts. It feels ironic then that finding a yoga class and style can be both physically and mentally stressful.
     Yoga is many things to many people, and in years past, yoga has had that reputation for being part of an alternative or ‘hippie’ lifestyle rather than a reasonable exercise activity. However, here in the West, yoga’s popularity has grown substantially over last 50 years and continues to grow exponentially on a yearly basis. And now it if fair to say that it’s popularity has reached something of a tipping point and become something excepted.

     With such great interest, there is still a lot of anxiety felt when it comes to finding a yoga that is appropriate for you. There are several different 'types' of yoga, though each yoga studio will have a personality or feeling all it's own. In order for you to know where to attend your first class, a little background on yoga can help you frame your search so that you're able to find what is perfect for you. So lets start there...
